There’s Effort in a Eulogy – a poem

Effort in a Euology - a poem by Dyana Lang

Maybe I’ll generate your eulogy

In some chat-bot software thing.

Are you even worth the effort

It takes to write or sing.

Why does that hurt?

The sting of lacking effort.

Things worth doing are

Worth taking time to do.

They are worth difficulty.

They are worth humming and hawing.

They are worth hurt.

Are you worth hurt?

Is art?

Am I?

What if I generated our first date,

First messages, first flirts?

Is that how much your love is worth?

Or is it more.

Is it worth the time and fumbles.

Is it worth some blundering bumbles.

I hope so.

Because if not, then what is any of this for?

For the sake of it?

For status?

For fake friendship, fake gratis?

I won’t generate the eulogy

Of anyone, I’m honored to be asked

To honour.

Because life is worth an effort.

Yours certainly is.
